SmarterPlay doesn’t collect your data. There’s no account with us, and the app has no ads, no analytics and no tracking. What you connect stays between your iPhone, your car and the services you sign in to.

What stays on your iPhone

• Sign-ins to your media servers. SmarterPlay keeps a sign-in token in the iPhone’s Keychain, never your password. Plex sign-in uses a link code, so SmarterPlay never sees your Plex password. A Jellyfin or Emby password is used once to get a token and is not kept.
• Your settings and web links, plus cached artwork and details so screens load quickly.
• Website data, such as cookies, so you stay signed in to sites between drives. Sign Out of Websites in the app clears it.
• Today’s free viewing time. It’s counted on your iPhone and never sent anywhere. It’s kept in the Keychain so it carries over if you reinstall the app.

Signing out of a server removes its token and cached data. Deleting the app removes everything else.

Who SmarterPlay talks to

• Your media servers, and plex.tv for Plex sign-in and finding your servers. SmarterPlay asks them for what you browse and play, and tells them what you watched and where you stopped, so your other devices stay in step. Their own privacy policies cover what they keep.
• Websites you open in SmarterPlay’s browser. They see what they’d see in any browser, and their own policies apply.
• Apple, when you buy SmarterPlay+. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card or Apple Account details.

None of this passes through us. We don’t run servers that your viewing goes through.

Permissions

• Local network, to find and connect to media servers on your home network.
• Location, only when a website you open asks for it and you allow it. It goes to that website, not to us.
• Screen sharing, when you mirror your iPhone. Your screen is shown on the car screen as it’s captured. It isn’t recorded, saved or sent anywhere else, and it stops when you stop sharing.

Crash reports

If you’ve turned on Share With App Developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash and usage reports. You can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

This website

smarterplay.co is hosted by Cloudflare. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you; it records things like the page you opened, the site that sent you, your country and your type of device. Cloudflare also processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Children

SmarterPlay isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t collect data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
